The Crow, also called the Absaroka or Apsáalooke, are a tribe of Native Americans who historically lived in the Yellowstone River valley.

The name of the tribe, Apsáalooke, had been mistranslated by early interpreters as “people of [the] crows.” It actually meant “people [or children] of the large-beaked bird,” a name given to them by their sister tribe, the Hidatsa. The bird, perhaps now extinct, was defined as a fork-tailed bird resembling the blue jay or magpie. They first encountered Europeans in 1743, two Frenchmen (the La Verendryes brothers from Canada), near the present-day town of Hardin, Montana. These explorers called the Apsáalooke, beaux hommes, i.e., “handsome men.” The Crow termed Europeans as baashchíile, “person with yellow eyes.”

The Crow Tribe now live on a reservation south of Billings, Montana. The tribal headquarters are located at Crow Agency, Montana.

Bend Art Gallery Now Open

Just in time for the September First Friday Art Walk in downtown Bend, Oregon, the Michael Cassidy Fine Art gallery is now open!

Michael Cassidy Bend Art Gallery

Michael Cassidy Bend Art Gallery

On the first Friday of each month, the Bend Gallery Association hosts “First Friday Art Walk”, in Bend, Oregon.  Art gallerys open their doors, artists show their work on the sidewalks, and complementary fine wine is offered at many stores and boutiques.  The First Friday Art Walk is a monthly tradition in Bend, and the fine weather offers a great excuse to get out and mingle.

The Michael Cassidy Fine Art gallery was packed with people.  And while visiting the gallery with my wife, I over heard many great comments from the crowd.  The gallery exhibited paintings that most people in Bend have probably never seen.

And for the first time, Michael Cassidy released his Native American art to the public.

Join us for the next First Friday Art Walk in Bend.  Or better yet, come visit the gallery yourself.

New Website and New City

Welcome friends to my new website, up just in time for the opening of my new gallery in Bend, Oregon.

Why Bend, Oregon?

Good question.

But I will not answer that question just yet. Just know that I have moved to Bend, Oregon, and I really enjoy the people and the slower pace of life.

Stay tuned for more…
