Battle Of The Paddle Hawaii

June 6, 2010 by Michael Cassidy · 10 Comments

Aloha Everyone, Here’s one my latest projects. This is for a stand up paddle board race at Duke Kahanamoku Beach at Waikiki. It’s the Rainbow Sandals, Gerry Lopez Battle Of The Paddle. Along with my good friend George Kam we did all of the art and most of the marketing for the event. There will be posters, t-shirts and magazine ads. I’m headed over in the morning to Honolulu. The event is June 11-13. Had a lot of fun with George and Gerry working on the concept for the event. The story behind this Duke image starts with a man named John Zabotacky who surfed stand up or “Beachboy” style for 60 years virtually by himself. George Downing went to have a talk with him and when he asked John where the inspiration came from he said he saw Duke doing it  one day… So Duke is not only the father of modern surfing but the father of stand up! So with that back story we thought it appropriate to use this image of Duke to kick off the first annual event. Will have more to post soon as I’ve finally learned how to do it…I’m computer challenged… Stay tuned. Aloha, M.C.

Thanks for coming back. Be sure to post your thoughts below in the comments.

Hemispheres Magazine Cover

October 15, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

An original art work by Michael Cassidy is featured on the October 2008 cover of Hemispheres Magazine, an in-flight travel magazine published by United Airlines.  The painting is titled “Fisherman at Kahala”.

Fisherman At Kahala

Fisherman At Kahala, Island of Oahu, Hawaii

The response from airline travelers using United Airlines and reading the Hemispheres Magazine has been wonderful.  As with most of Michael’s art, this painting has a story.  Here is a description of the painting in Michael’s own words:

“This is “Fisherman At Kahala”, a painting 50 inches by 60 inches and oil on canvas. It was done as a commission for Kahala Sportswear”s first Retail store in the Ala Moana Mall in Honolulu. The scene is on a sandbar in the lagoon of Kahala Beach on the south side of the island of Oahu in The Hawaiian Islands.

“The island in the background is Molokai which is easily seen on a clear day. This type of scene would have been common place in the early part of the 20th century. Kahala is a beach that doesn’t see a lot of tourist traffic even though it’s only a few miles around the corner from Diamond Head. Most tourists drive right by as it’s hard to see the beach from the road.

“My good friend Dale Hope who is the Art Director and former owner of Kahala Sportswear grew up on this beach and named the company after it. I’ve done a lot of Aloha shirt designs for Kahala over the years and really enjoy working with Dale. In the same way as I am he’s a holdout for the old time days of Aloha and a slower lifestyle.”

We have had many inquires asking us if the art work on the cover of the Hemispheres Magazine is for sale.  Sorry, but the painting has been sold – it was a commissioned work.

But we have a limited number of prints available for purchase.  As with all of the prints available directly from Michael Cassidy, the prints are created using the Giclée process.  Although Giclée prints are much more expensive on a “per print” basis than the traditional four color offset lithography process originally used to make such reproductions, the reproduction quality of a Giclée print has to be seen to be believed.

To purchase your own “Fisherman at Kahala” print, call the Michael Cassidy art gallery in Bend, Oregon, at 541-382-0512 and ask for Peter.

The print is available in two different sizes, either 20 inches by 24 inches, or 32 inches by 36 inches.  The print from the Hemispheres Magazine cover can be shipped any where in the world.  Shipping and handling is free.

You have to see these prints yourself.  The picture on this website just doesn’t do justice to the richness or color of these unusual prints.

Prices for prints of this original and unique Michael Cassidy painting print start at $850.00 USD.  Only a limited number of prints will be sold.  Call Peter today at 541-382-0512 and purchase your limited edition print for yourself.

Bend Art Gallery Now Open

September 6, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Just in time for the September First Friday Art Walk in downtown Bend, Oregon, the Michael Cassidy Fine Art gallery is now open!

Michael Cassidy Bend Art Gallery

Michael Cassidy Bend Art Gallery

On the first Friday of each month, the Bend Gallery Association hosts “First Friday Art Walk”, in Bend, Oregon.  Art gallerys open their doors, artists show their work on the sidewalks, and complementary fine wine is offered at many stores and boutiques.  The First Friday Art Walk is a monthly tradition in Bend, and the fine weather offers a great excuse to get out and mingle.

The Michael Cassidy Fine Art gallery was packed with people.  And while visiting the gallery with my wife, I over heard many great comments from the crowd.  The gallery exhibited paintings that most people in Bend have probably never seen.

And for the first time, Michael Cassidy released his Native American art to the public.

Join us for the next First Friday Art Walk in Bend.  Or better yet, come visit the gallery yourself.

New Website and New City

Welcome friends to my new website, up just in time for the opening of my new gallery in Bend, Oregon.

Why Bend, Oregon?

Good question.

But I will not answer that question just yet. Just know that I have moved to Bend, Oregon, and I really enjoy the people and the slower pace of life.

Stay tuned for more…
