An original art work by Michael Cassidy is featured on the October 2008 cover of Hemispheres Magazine, an in-flight travel magazine published by United Airlines. The painting is titled “Fisherman at Kahala”.

Fisherman At Kahala, Island of Oahu, Hawaii

The response from airline travelers using United Airlines and reading the Hemispheres Magazine has been wonderful. As with most of Michael’s art, this painting has a story. Here is a description of the painting in Michael’s own words:

“This is “Fisherman At Kahala”, a painting 50 inches by 60 inches and oil on canvas. It was done as a commission for Kahala Sportswear”s first Retail store in the Ala Moana Mall in Honolulu. The scene is on a sandbar in the lagoon of Kahala Beach on the south side of the island of Oahu in The Hawaiian Islands.

“The island in the background is Molokai which is easily seen on a clear day. This type of scene would have been common place in the early part of the 20th century. Kahala is a beach that doesn’t see a lot of tourist traffic even though it’s only a few miles around the corner from Diamond Head. Most tourists drive right by as it’s hard to see the beach from the road.

“My good friend Dale Hope who is the Art Director and former owner of Kahala Sportswear grew up on this beach and named the company after it. I’ve done a lot of Aloha shirt designs for Kahala over the years and really enjoy working with Dale. In the same way as I am he’s a holdout for the old time days of Aloha and a slower lifestyle.”

We have had many inquires asking us if the art work on the cover of the Hemispheres Magazine is for sale. Sorry, but the painting has been sold – it was a commissioned work.

But we have a limited number of prints available for purchase. As with all of the prints available directly from Michael Cassidy, the prints are created using the Giclée process. Although Giclée prints are much more expensive on a “per print” basis than the traditional four color offset lithography process originally used to make such reproductions, the reproduction quality of a Giclée print has to be seen to be believed.

To purchase your own “Fisherman at Kahala” print, call the Michael Cassidy art gallery in Bend, Oregon, at 541-382-0512 and ask for Peter.

The print is available in two different sizes, either 20 inches by 24 inches, or 32 inches by 36 inches. The print from the Hemispheres Magazine cover can be shipped any where in the world. Shipping and handling is free.

You have to see these prints yourself. The picture on this website just doesn’t do justice to the richness or color of these unusual prints.

Prices for prints of this original and unique Michael Cassidy painting print start at $850.00 USD. Only a limited number of prints will be sold. Call Peter today at 541-382-0512 and purchase your limited edition print for yourself.

The Crow, also called the Absaroka or Apsáalooke, are a tribe of Native Americans who historically lived in the Yellowstone River valley.

The name of the tribe, Apsáalooke, had been mistranslated by early interpreters as “people of [the] crows.” It actually meant “people [or children] of the large-beaked bird,” a name given to them by their sister tribe, the Hidatsa. The bird, perhaps now extinct, was defined as a fork-tailed bird resembling the blue jay or magpie. They first encountered Europeans in 1743, two Frenchmen (the La Verendryes brothers from Canada), near the present-day town of Hardin, Montana. These explorers called the Apsáalooke, beaux hommes, i.e., “handsome men.” The Crow termed Europeans as baashchíile, “person with yellow eyes.”

The Crow Tribe now live on a reservation south of Billings, Montana. The tribal headquarters are located at Crow Agency, Montana.
